Raphtalia became Naofumi's sword after he saved her from severe malnutrition and the effects of the slave mark. She learned to harness her powers as a demi-human raccoon-type slave with a high level of agility, speed, and dexterity. Gradually, she finds a connection with Naofumi, and their master and servant relationship evolves to a romantic pair. Raphtalia helps her master to overcome discrimination and hatred as they seek to save their world from the curse of the Waves.
