Yu Kanda is a fictional anime character from the series D.Gray-man. He is often recognized by his unique and striking appearance. Standing at 5'10" tall, Yu Kanda has long, black hair that falls past his waist in a high ponytail. He is often seen wearing a traditional Japanese kimono, held closed by a white obi belt, and carrying a katana sword on his back. Yu Kanda's facial features are sharp, with narrow, piercing eyes and a stern expression.

Yu Kanda's backstory is one of tragedy and hardship. Raised in a clan of exorcists, he was forced to endure intense training from a young age in order to become a skilled fighter. Despite his dedication and strength, Yu was eventually betrayed by his own clan and left to die alone on a battlefield. He was rescued by a group of exorcists who took him in and offered him a new purpose in life. Yu Kanda remains stoic and reserved, rarely showing his emotions to others. However, he is fiercely loyal to his friends and will stop at nothing to protect them from harm.
