Raphtalia became Naofumi's sword after he saved her from severe malnutrition and the effects of the slave mark. Gradually, she finds a connection with Naofumi, and their master and servant relationship evolves to a romantic pair. Raphtalia helps her master to overcome discrimination and hatred as they seek to save their world from the curse of the Waves.
